Description
Lost in Dialogue: Anthropology, Psychopathology and Care (5th edition) – eBook PDF
The field of psychiatry has long struggled with evolving models of practice; most understate the interpersonal aspects of clinical practice.
This essay is exclusive in putting intersubjectivity front and center. It is an attempt to present a clinical method to re-establish the fragile dialogue of the soul with oneself and with others. Throughout, Lost in Dialogue (PDF) builds on the assumption that to be human means to be in dialogue. It utilizes dialogue as a unitary concept to address three essential issues for the clinical practice: ‘What is mental pathology?”, ‘What is a human being?’ and ‘What is care?’. To be human – it is argued – means to be in conversation with oneself and with other persons. Therefore, mental pathology is the interruption of this dialogue – both of the person with the alterity that resides in them, and with the alterity incarnated in other persons. Thus, therapy is a dialogue with a method whose aim is to re-enact one’s interrupted dialogue with alterity.
Lost in Dialogue: Anthropology, Psychopathology and Care (International Perspectives in Philosophy and Psychiatry) offers a method to approximate the Other, to understand its experiences, actions, and in general, comprehend the world in which it lives.
Reviews
“Stanghellini has written a thought-provoking addition to the International Perspectives in Philosophy and Psychiatry series. It is heavily weighted to phenomenological and psychodynamic thought, and conceptually has strength and depth.” — Robert A. Bischoff, PsyCRITIQUES
“This ebook… will be a valuable resource for those who seek to refer to the crucial work of integrating psychotherapeutical and phenomenological approaches into the scientific investigation” — Ragna Winniewski, Humanities Cologne in Germany and MSCA fellow in the humanities program,
